# The Best AI Tools for Local Service Businesses to Get More Leads

7 min read For operators Updated October 12, 2026

**The short answer:** the AI tools that get a local service business more leads are the ones that fix the stage where leads are lost. In simple terms, there are four stages. Tools help you **get found** (your Google Business Profile, website and reviews, for example BrightLocal, Podium or Found by Keres AI), **answer** every call and message (AI receptionists such as Smith.ai, Goodcall or Remi by Keres AI), and **follow up** (reminders, estimate chasing and past-customer campaigns, often inside ServiceTitan, Jobber or Housecall Pro). For some businesses, a fourth group does **outbound** email, such as Apollo or Instantly. Many owners get the most from the first two stages, because the first two stages are where leads are already arriving and being lost.

The guide is written by Keres AI, which sells tools at each stage: Found (website and Google Business Profile), Remi (AI receptionist), Theo and June (follow-up) and Sol (outbound email). We name other tools in every category, link to their sites, and say where ours does not fit. We do not quote other vendors' prices here; the comparisons we link to list them with the date each was checked on the vendor's own page.

## Why think in stages rather than tools?

Every lead for a plumber, roofer or law firm is a person moving through the same four steps, whatever the trade. First, the person searches and finds you. Second, the person calls, texts or fills in a form. Third, someone answers and books the job, or the caller tries the next business on the list. Finally, the customer needs a reminder, a nudge on an estimate, or a reason to come back next season.

An AI tool only adds leads if the tool fixes the step where you are losing leads. For example, a beautiful new website does nothing if calls go to voicemail after 5pm. A 24/7 AI receptionist does little if nobody can find you on Google Maps. So before buying anything, look at where the gap is:

- **Few calls and enquiries?** Start with getting found.
- **Plenty of calls, but missed or slow callbacks?** Start with answering.
- **Estimates that go quiet and customers who never return?** Start with follow-up.
- **You sell to other businesses and need more of them?** Consider outbound.

## Get found: Google Business Profile, website and reviews tools

For many local service businesses, the Google Business Profile is a major source of calls. According to Google, local results are based on three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is how well a profile matches the search, and distance is how far the business is from the person searching. Prominence is how well-known a business is, based partly on links and reviews, and Google says [more reviews and positive ratings can help a business’s local ranking](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7091). For example, a roofer with a complete profile, accurate service areas and a steady flow of new reviews gives Google more to work with than a roofer with an empty profile. Distance is the one factor no tool can change, so the first job is relevance and prominence. The tools here fall into three groups: software you run yourself, done-for-you services, and features to skip because Google retired the features in 2024 and 2025.

### Google Business Profile and review software

Software you run yourself to schedule posts, track map rankings and collect reviews. Well-known examples include [BrightLocal](https://www.brightlocal.com), [Localo](https://localo.com) and [Merchynt's Paige](https://www.merchynt.com), which uses AI to post to and optimize the profile. [Podium](https://www.podium.com) and [Birdeye](https://birdeye.com) focus on review requests by text and on messaging. AI features in these tools draft posts and review replies; you still decide what goes out.

### Done-for-you profile and website services

If nobody in the business will keep the profile current, a service does the weekly work for you. Found is a done-for-you service from [Keres AI](https://www.keresai.com/services/found). Found builds and runs the website and the Google Business Profile, with weekly posts, photos, review replies drafted for your approval, spam-listing reports and monthly insights. Found sends the same review request to every customer after each job (no review gating) and keeps your listings consistent across directories. Found starts at $249 a month ($499 for law firms), with no build fee at the base tier, month-to-month.

Others that sell a website together with listings or reviews include Thryv, Hibu and Scorpion. Our [comparison of Google Business Profile management services](https://www.keresai.com/best-google-business-profile-management) lists what each includes and the price each publishes, checked October 11, 2026.

What to skip

Google ended Business Profile chat on July 31, 2024, and removed the Questions and Answers section from Business Profiles in late 2025. Any tool or service still selling either feature is out of date.

## Answer: AI receptionists and missed-call text-back

This is where many local businesses lose the leads they already paid for. Keres AI’s working assumption is that a caller who reaches voicemail usually calls the next business on the list. AI receptionists answer every call, ask your intake questions and book the appointment, at any hour.

Well-known options include [Smith.ai](https://smith.ai) (AI with live receptionists available), [Goodcall](https://www.goodcall.com), [Rosie](https://heyrosie.com) and [Upfirst](https://www.upfirst.ai). If you want a person on every call, live answering services such as [Ruby](https://www.ruby.com) are the alternative to AI. Our [comparison of the best AI receptionists](https://www.keresai.com/best-ai-receptionist) covers ten options with who answers, how each bills and its published price.

[Remi](https://www.keresai.com/agents/inbound), Keres AI's AI receptionist, answers in two rings, 24/7, asks your intake questions and books into Google Calendar, HubSpot or ServiceTitan (other tools through Zapier). It also handles website chat, a text line and form enquiries, and texts back a missed caller within 60 seconds. Remi answers in English only today. It bills one monthly rate with included minutes, then per minute, quoted to your call volume rather than published.

What to check with any AI receptionist:

- Does it **book the appointment** into your calendar or job software during the call, or just take a message?
- How do **urgent calls** reach you or the on-call tech?
- How does it **bill**: per minute, per call or per caller, and what does a busy month cost?
- Does it answer in the **languages** your callers speak?

## Follow up: reminders, estimate chasing and reactivation

Follow-up tools do not create new leads, but they turn more of the ones you have into jobs. Three jobs matter most: confirming and reminding booked appointments so fewer people no-show, chasing estimates that went quiet, and bringing past customers back for the next service or season.

Start with what you already own. Field service software such as [ServiceTitan](https://www.servicetitan.com), [Jobber](https://www.getjobber.com) and [Housecall Pro](https://www.housecallpro.com) is where your jobs and customer history live, so check which reminders and follow-up messages it can already send. Email marketing tools such as [Mailchimp](https://mailchimp.com) handle seasonal campaigns to past customers, and review platforms such as Podium and Birdeye send review requests by text.

Keres AI sells two workers for this stage, each quoted to your volume:

- [Theo](https://www.keresai.com/agents/follow-up) sends appointment confirmations and reminders and follows up on open estimates.
- [June](https://www.keresai.com/agents/reactivation) runs reactivation campaigns to past customers and asks for reviews after jobs.

The test for any follow-up tool is simple: does it work from your real customer and job list, and does it stop when the customer books, replies or asks it to?

## Outbound: when cold email fits, and when it does not

Outbound email tools find prospects and send personalized sequences. Well-known examples include [Apollo](https://www.apollo.io), [Instantly](https://instantly.ai) and [Smartlead](https://www.smartlead.ai). Keres AI's [Sol](https://www.keresai.com/agents/outbound) writes and sends outbound email for you, quoted to your volume.

Be honest about fit. **Cold email rarely works for homeowner services.** Nobody books an emergency plumber or a roof repair from an unsolicited email, and homeowners searching for help are on Google, not in their inbox. For those businesses, money spent on getting found and answering will usually return more.

Outbound does fit local businesses that sell to other businesses: commercial cleaning, commercial HVAC maintenance contracts, property management services, landscaping for offices and HOAs, and firms that win work through referral partners. If your best customers are businesses with a decision-maker you can name, outbound is worth testing. If they are households, skip it.

## In what order should you add AI tools?

For most local service businesses, the best order is the one that gets the most leads for the least effort:

1. **Fix answering first.** If calls are being missed, every other tool sends more leads into the same leak. An AI receptionist or missed-call text-back is usually the fastest win, for example Remi by Keres AI or a text-back feature in your phone system.
2. **Then get found.** A current Google Business Profile, steady reviews and a website that loads fast on a phone and makes calling easy.
3. **Then follow up.** Reminders, estimate chasing and past-customer campaigns, starting with what ServiceTitan, Jobber or Housecall Pro already does.
4. **Outbound last, and only if you sell to businesses.**

Whatever you buy, measure each tool on booked jobs, not on clicks or calls. Our guide to [measuring automation ROI](https://www.keresai.com/guides/measuring-automation-roi.html) shows how, and the [missed-call calculator](https://www.keresai.com/tools/missed-call-calculator) estimates what unanswered calls cost you today. A month-to-month plan lets you test one stage at a time before adding the next.

## Where does Keres AI fit?

Keres AI is a Houston company that sells a tool at each stage: Found for the website and Google Business Profile, Remi to answer, Theo and June to follow up, and Sol for outbound email, plus Custom workers for other jobs. Every worker is month-to-month, with 30 days’ written notice to cancel, and set up for you. Found's starting price is published at $249 a month ($499 for law firms); the others are quoted on a 30-minute call. For example, a plumbing company could first add Remi to stop missed calls, then add Found once every call is answered. Keres AI is not the right pick if you want a person answering every call, need callers answered in Spanish, or only want software you run yourself. Remi answers in English only, and Keres AI does not sign BAAs. See [pricing](https://www.keresai.com/pricing) or [get a quote](https://www.keresai.com/quote).
